Housekeeper's Cupboard

We found this wonderful old cupboard in an antique shop in Brisbane (now sadly closed) - it's an early version of IKEA and can be knocked down to be flat packed. These cupboards were moved between winter and summer houses in Bohemia (Czechoslovakia). Its great storage - we use it hide the television and it's home to a huge pile of magazines. One day I'm going to have shelving made to fit the cupboard - I'll just add it to my endless wish list!

It's the Weekend - A Good Time for a Picnic

Well maybe not this weekend as rain is forecast, but wouldn't you just love to pack your picnic basket and rug into this gorgeous old car and head off somewhere beautiful - clear skies, good food and perhaps a nap in this wonderful tent .... mmmm, lovely.

Favourite Finds

This old chair was very sad when I found it at the Everything Shop in Sutton Forest - it was really only good for firewood! But with some clever repairs, a coat of paint and new cushion cover, voila - the funny old chair is now the beautiful chair!

I found this lovely old croquet set on eBay, USA - it took a very long time to get through Customs but was well worth the wait.

I spotted four of these Chippendale chairs in a secondhand shop - they were stained in rosewood and had ugly pink velvet seats. I re-painted them black and re-upholstered the seats in linen. A fabulous find!

African Farm House - Zimbabwe

I just love this beautiful farm house. Built in 1995, it is based on Australian colonial design - wide all round verandahs and tin roof. The thatched ceiling in the bedroom is wonderful as is their collection of antiques, lamps and rugs.

These succulents are on an old table on the western side of the house and get the hot afternoon sun - they love this spot and are very low maintenance so not only are they lovely to look at they're also very easy to live with.

What is there not to love about this simple but elegant house - the timber floors, the pale colour scheme, the beautiful collection of antiques, the all white upholstery, the linen curtains, the sisal mats. Perfect!
