One of my favourite architectural features are wooden shutters. Brabourne Farm house has 15 sets of french doors and shutters - every room, except the laundry, opens directly onto the terrace that surrounds the house. One of my best memories of building the house was when the shutters were fitted - I was amazed by the beauty of the filtered light (particularly in the early morning) and the unexpected colonial feel they gave to the interior of the house. Did I mention the afternoon breeze ....

The shutters at Brabourne Farm look absolutely gorgeous both inside and out. No wonder you remember with fondness when they were installed. Hope you have a great week. Lee :)
ReplyDeleteTotally agree Leigh, shutters do add that special something. We had an external set on our bedroom window in the old villa & yes, when they were closed the room took on a whole different feel. Looking at the way the shadows were cast on the timber floor often made me think about colonial India as well!
ReplyDeleteYours look absolutely wonderful - so simple & elegant, the perfect choice for your gorgeous home.

I could not agree more..nothing gives that elegant and good quality finish to a house like shutters. Love your pictures.

I love Shutters or "volets" as they are known in French. I love the idea of flinging them open to greet the day.
ReplyDeleteThey are so practical as they protect you from the elements and also intruders - that said we live in an area where there is almost zero crime but they do make you feel potected.
When it is too hot you close them, too cold you close to keep in the heat and when you want to stay in bed a little longer you can :-)
J'aime les volets aussi.

I love seeing images from your home Leigh - it looks so beautiful, especially with these elegant shutters. They do really add a special touch don't they?
