It's a Work of Art!

I love the wonderful and unusual things people use as artwork - from everyday items to things you'd never imagine would look good on a wall. Original and fabulous!

  1. I love all of these too - particularly the top one which jumped out at me from a magazine page not long ago. Just need to get myself to the country to pick up something similar!

  2. I was impressed by that windmill on the wall, I have antique wagon wheels in my shed and have been trying to think of how I could use one without it looking twee. What do you think?

  5. Hi Leigh,

You have just brought back so many memories, the third shot down of the farm gate is in my friend Claudia Thomas's house in New York, I was her assistant when I first started at Vogue Living and the old farm gate was a going away present from all the team at Vogue when she moved back to the States. We bought it from John Normyle Antiques in Paddington and she absolutely loved it. We had a huge bow tied on it when we brought it in to the party.

And I think the paintings of the sheep were her Grandmothers from memory. She is such a stylish woman. I'm sure her children are all grown and married now, I haven't been in touch for years.

  6. Hi Leigh, I agree. Odd art is always so interesting and inspiring and for the thrifty decorator cheap too, cheers Katherine

  7. A fabulous collection Leigh! I think you can use just about anything to achieve a great look, as long it has balance & synergy within the room. I'm all for a bit of individual quirkiness. MOTH's got an old wooden rowing eight that he found broken in half at the Dump stored in our shed. It still has the slides intact & he wants to do something creative with it. I'm not sure though that it will cut it as wall art!

  9. These special things add personal touch to any room. Definitely not mass production interiors.

  10. O.K. Leigh, this is my 6th attempt at commenting...it just doesn't seem to want to work for me....probably my lousy computer !! I have missed so many of your posts. Everytime I come back to try again, you've put up another one !!!! Anyway,
    1. Love the Michael Herron artwork...very Autumnal.
2.Thought that the rooms that lead out to the garden were beautiful.
    3. Loved the Zinc pots and planters....especially the peonies, cyclemen and viburmun...gorgeous..... and,
    4. What wonderful ways to display artwork....my particular favourite being the ironwork in the 2nd picture.
Sorry that my comments are a bit short and to the point, but I'm playing catch up here, Leigh !!!! XXXX

  12. This has got me thinking about what I have kicking around that I could hang on the wall! I love reading posts like this that inspire so many potential ideas. I like Millie's idea of using the half rowing eight - especially if it has a story to tell. I had my eye on an oar recently, now I wish I'd grabbed it.
