I would love, love, love to have one of this paintings in my house!
Hi Leigh, I've never heard of Fred Jessup before (forgive my ignorance) - I think his still life floral paintings are just gorgeous. Thank you for bringing him to my attention! Lee :)
Exactly the kind of picture that I love! Wonderful! I want the 4th!! Have a nice week!! xx
Thanks for the introduction! I'd never come across Fred's work before.
Hi Leigh,Met Fred in France a few years before his death in July 2007. A prolific artist whose still life floral paintings are a visual feast. He was still painting feverishly in his rural retreat atelier at age 85. Very much an ex-pat Aussie. He reminisced about his formative years and his artist friends in Australia including Donald Friend and Margaret Olley. A joy to be present with a working artist whose methods and inspirations traversed generations of artists, antipodean and european.
Leigh,I had the pleasure of meeting the artist Fred Jessup in France working as feverishly as ever in his rural retreat. At 84 years of age he spoke lovingly of his antipodean artist friends, such as Dame Margaret Olley. Sadly he died in July 2007 but his still life paintings, especially of flowers, bear testimony to his consummate artistry.
I have a lovely painting by Fred Jessup entitled "Summer Lover." No one in my family likes it (except for me). What a pity. It has beautiful curtains, a wonderful fireplace, a chair, and of course, flowers. Very vivid turquoise and pinks.
We had memorable dinner with Freddy Jessop many, many years ago. He made a mean dry martini, his house remains in memory as fantastical, like a stage set. Particularly the huge aviary in the middle of the studio.
